Advantages of Sodium Bicarbonate Feed Grade

Buffer for livestock digestive system

Animals, such as cattle, face challenges related to acidosis, a condition caused by the excessive production of acids during digestion. Sodium bicarbonate acts as a buffer, helping to neutralize excess acids and maintain the optimal pH levels in the stomach. This not only improves digestive efficiency but also prevents health issues associated with acid imbalance.

Maintain electrolyte balance in animals

These minerals contribute to maintaining electrolyte balance in animals, supporting proper nerve function, muscle contraction, and overall physiological equilibrium. The inclusion of sodium bicarbonate in animal feed ensures a well-rounded nutritional profile, fostering robust health in various species.

Alkalizing effects of livestock diets

Livestock, such as poultry and swine, benefit from the alkalizing effect of sodium bicarbonate on their diets. This compound aids in mitigating the impact of acidic components present in certain feed ingredients. By stabilizing the pH levels in the digestive tract, sodium bicarbonate helps optimize nutrient absorption, leading to improved feed efficiency and, consequently, enhanced growth and performance in animals.

Promote proper fermentation of feed

Sodium Bicarbonate Feed Grade finds utility in addressing specific challenges associated with feed formulations. It acts as a leavening agent, facilitating the proper fermentation of feed, which is crucial in the production of high-quality animal diets. This not only enhances the palatability of the feed but also ensures that animals receive nutritionally balanced and easily digestible meals.

How to Use Sodium Bicarbonate Feed Grade in Pig Production

Promote pig growth: It can compensate for lysine deficiency, increase appetite, strengthen digestion, and regulate acid-base balance in the body. Adding 0.5% sodium bicarbonate to piglet diets can increase piglet feed intake and increase daily weight gain by 10%; adding 3 to 4 grams of baking soda per fattening pig per day can reduce feed consumption by 100%. 13 points; before slaughter, oral administration of sodium bicarbonate to pigs can delay the decline in pH value after slaughter, thereby reducing the occurrence of PSE meat and improving meat quality.

Prevent yellow and white diarrhea: Adding 2% sodium bicarbonate to the diet of postpartum lactating sows can enhance the physical fitness of each pig, prevent the occurrence of yellow and white diarrhea in piglets, and increase the survival rate of piglets by 5%. For piglets suffering from yellow diarrhea, red diarrhea and white diarrhea, drink oral rehydration salt solution (the formula is 2.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate, 3.5 grams of sodium chloride, 1.5 grams of potassium chloride, and 20 grams of glucose, heated 1000 ml of boiling water), the medicinal solution is ready for use, multiple times a day, which can enhance the disease resistance of piglets and increase the survival rate by 1%

Eliminate aspergillus flavus: The method is to immerse 100 kilograms of corn in 200 kilograms of 1% sodium bicarbonate solution, take it out after 10 hours, and rinse it with clean water.

Prevent heat stress: Adding 250 mg of sodium bicarbonate per kilogram of feed during high temperature seasons can effectively alleviate the adverse effects of heat stress on pigs.

Process of Sodium Bicarbonate Feed Grade

A method for producing sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate includes reacting an aqueous sodium sulfate solution with ammonia and carbon dioxide in a reactor to precipitate sodium bicarbonate and form a first stock solution. The sodium bicarbonate is separated and dried to obtain the sodium bicarbonate product.

Alternatively, sodium bicarbonate can be calcined to convert it to sodium carbonate. The first stock solution can be evaporated to precipitate unreacted sodium sulfate while forming a second stock solution. The second stock solution can be cooled to precipitate the double salt of sodium sulfate/ammonium sulfate and water.

A third stock solution is formed from this process. Evaporating the latter liquid from the double salt precipitation to precipitate substantially pure ammonium sulfate having a purity greater than about 75 wt%.

A fourth stock solution was formed. A double salt is added to the first stock solution from sodium bicarbonate precipitation before the evaporation step, and a fourth stock solution is added to the second stock solution from evaporation to precipitate unreacted sodium sulfate.

Which Additives Cannot Be Used with Sodium Bicarbonate Feed Grade

Acid anti-heat stress feed additive
Adding 0.05% to 0.15% citric acid to the diet of laying hens in summer can increase egg production rate and egg weight; adding 0.1% fumaric acid to broiler feed in summer can significantly reduce their heat stress response and increase weight gain by 0.34 kg; Adding 1% ectopic acid-based dairy additives to dairy cow concentrates in summer can alleviate the heat stress response of dairy cows, increase feed intake, and the milk production reduced by heat will gradually increase. However, if these feed additives are mixed with sodium bicarbonate, a neutralization reaction will occur on both sides, and both will lose their anti-heat stress effect.

Vitamin
Adding 0.02% vitamin C to broiler feed in summer can increase weight gain by 9.16% and reduce heat stress mortality from 22% to 7.3%; in summer, when the temperature is above 30°C, adding 50 mg of vitamin C per kilogram of feed for laying hens can Increase egg production rate by 10% to 12%, and improve eggshell quality. However, vitamin C is easily soluble in water, has acidity and strong reducing properties, is stable in acidic solutions, and will be quickly destroyed in alkaline solutions. When combined with sodium bicarbonate, the sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution is highly alkaline, and vitamin C will be quickly destroyed and rendered ineffective.

Sodium chloride
When the weather is hot in summer, adding 0.2% to 0.3% sodium chloride to the drinking water of broilers can significantly increase the amount of water consumed by broilers, thereby effectively alleviating heat stress. However, when sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate are used at the same time, sodium ions can increase in the body of broilers, affecting their nerve centers and causing movement disorders. Therefore, when using sodium bicarbonate, the amount of sodium chloride should be reduced by half or full.

Aspirin
Adding 0.05% aspirin to layer feed in summer can significantly increase egg production rate, egg weight and egg shell thickness. However, sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution is alkaline and can decompose aspirin, first producing acetylsalicylate, and then decomposing into other substances, thereby losing the anti-heat stress effect, so the two should not be used together.
